To Residents, Resident Representatives and Staff
Today, a case of COVID-19 has been diagnosed in a construction employee working on the extension wing of Kalyna Care. This extension wing is on the outside of the residential facility.
The worker is in quarantine and though the worker was working outside of our residential facility and has not entered the facility at any time, we are taking every precaution possible to ensure that our residents and staff are safe from any potential infection.
We have notified public health officials and are following procedures recommended by the Department of Health.
We are taking every step as recommended by authorities to contain any potential spread including advice on the testing of residents and staff.
All construction work has ceased immediately and all construction employees have been instructed to get tested. Construction work will only commence when all identified construction employees have been cleared.
A commercial cleaning company has been immediately tasked to disinfect all areas of the construction site which is situated outside the facility.
Additional cleaning staff have been rostered to disinfect the high touch points as an added precaution.
We want to make residents, their families, our dedicated staff and our community aware of this situation as soon as possible and reassure everyone that we are working tirelessly to protect our residents and staff.
Keeping our residents and the staff who care for them as safe as possible is a shared responsibility between Kalyna Care and our entire community, and we ask everyone to join in this commitment.
We have implemented health measures that balance care and compassion with protection and caution.
While visitor restrictions are in place, we will be working and communicating closely with residents, their families and friends, to maintain alternative connections such as video conferencing.
Kalyna Care continues to be on maximum alert levels.
We have strong infection controls in place and are acting on advice from the Department of Health and medical authorities.
We are committed to providing the latest information to staff, residents and families
We wish to thank our much-loved residents, their families and friends for their understanding during this challenging period.
In particular, we want to acknowledge our amazing staff for their approach and professionalism throughout this difficult time.
